Cytokinin Fluxes during Floral Induction in the Long Day Plant Sinapis alba L.

چکیده
Sinapis alba is a long-day (LD) plant that can be induced to flower by a single LD. A number of changes normally occurring in the meristem of plants subjected to the LD can be produced in short day by a single application of a cytokinin to the apical bud. However, flower buds are not produced indicating that evocation by the cytokinin is only partial. In this work, the cytokinin content of root exudate, obtained under vacuum, and of leaf exudate, obtained by the EDTA-method, has been analyzed comparatively in vegetative and induced plants, using reversed-phase HPLC coupled to the Amaranthus bioassay. The results show that, as early as 16 hours after the start of the LD, there is an increase of cytokinin activity in both the root and leaf exudates of induced plants. These observations fit nicely with previous results obtained on Sinapis, and they indicate that cytokinins are part of the floral stimulus in this species.

Cytokinin as a Possible Component of the Floral Stimulus in Sinapis alba.
Results of previous investigations indicated that one of the early and essential events occurring in the apical meristem of Sinapis alba L. during the transition to flowering is the release to mitosis of the G(2) nuclei; the trigger to mitosis is generated in the leaves and its movement out of the leaves begins around 16 hours after the start of the inductive treatment. The mitotic wave in the ...
متن کاملC : N ratio increases in the phloem sap during floral transition of the long-day plants Sinapis alba and Arabidopsis thaliana.
In plants of Sinapis alba and Arabidopsis thaliana, leaf exudate (phloem sap) was analysed during and after a single long day inducing flowering and in control short days. The amounts of carbohydrates and amino acids were measured to estimate the organic C : N ratio. In both species, the C : N ratio of the phloem sap increased markedly and early during the inductive treatment, suggesting that a...
متن کاملGene activation cascade triggered by a single photoperiodic cycle inducing flowering in Sinapis alba.
Molecular genetic analyses in Arabidopsis disclosed a genetic pathway whereby flowering is induced by the photoperiod. This cascade is examined here within the time course of floral transition in the long-day (LD) plant Sinapis alba induced by a single photoperiodic cycle. In addition to previously available sequences, the cloning of CONSTANS (SaCO) and FLOWERING LOCUS T (SaFT) homologues allow...
متن کاملEarly Changes in Gene Expression during the Transition from Vegetative to Generative Growth in the Long-Day Plant Sinapis alba.
Changes in gene expression during flower formation were studied in the long-day plant Sinapis alba. The day length dependence was exploited to synchronize flower formation in a large population of mustard plants. After an inductive light treatment, apices were harvested after different lengths of time, and changes in gene expression were analyzed. Two major groups of genes were identified whose...
متن کاملChanges of edogenous hormone levels during short-day inductive floral initiation and inflorescence differentiation of Chrysanthemum morifolium ‘Jingyun’
Duration of various stages of inflorescence differentiation and hormone levels in apical buds eventually decide the harvest time, flower uniformity and quality of ornamental plants. The progress in inflorescence differentiation process in the chrysanthemum cultivar ‘Jingyun’ can be divided into nine stages. Following short day induction, it took 4d to reach the growing point hypertrophy stage, ...
